ACN Witnesses of Hope - Burundi
Burundi is the second poorest country in the world.
There is malaria. There are pulmonary diseases especially affecting the children. For the adults, there are different types of infections, bacterial and viral infections.
In Burundi, around 2.9% of the population lives with HIV.
My name is Sr Consolata, I am a Carmelite Sister, and I am also a doctor. At the moment, the problem that we have a lot, is the problem of payment for our staff and the problem of fuel for the transfer of patients. I lost a patient during an operation. I couldn't refer him anywhere else because there was no fuel. Despite the problems, hope is very important. Because without hope, you get discouraged. Myself, without hope, I would stop treating the sick. And I know that God's hand is always there.
