This Lent, Aid to the Church in Need invites you to walk with missionaries who bring hope to the world’s most abandoned and suffering communities.
Lent is a time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. We prepare our hearts for Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection. It is a journey back to God, deepening faith through sacrifice, and answering Christ’s call to love and serve the poor.
From the ruins of Aleppo to remote Amazon villages, and from South Sudan’s plains to Ghana’s slums, missionaries witness Christ’s love. They carry the Gospel in word and action, bringing food, education, healthcare, and God’s comforting presence.
In Albania, a sister serves joyfully despite poverty, “You do everything for the love of Our Lord.” In Bangladesh, Br Eugenio Sans works to “dignify the poor” in forgotten tea gardens. In Pakistan, missionaries face bonded labour and persecution, quietly transforming lives through faith and compassion.
Missionaries live Lent daily: denying themselves, taking up their cross, and following Jesus. Their love endures danger, illness, and isolation. A missionary in Brazil says, “When I came here, I was aware that I was going to lose my life… and I am very happy.”
But they cannot do it alone. With you, we keep the mission alive.
This Lent, your almsgiving can bring real change. A chapel for prayer. A boat to reach a distant community. Medicine for a child. Schoolbooks for a future priest. Each gift, small or large, is a lifeline and a visible sign that with you, we keep the mission alive.
As Pope Francis said, “The Church must go out to the margins.” ACN is proud to stand with missionaries who do just that, and with your support, they can go further.
How you can take part:
Pray for the persecuted.
Fast in solidarity with the poor.
Give to sustain the mission.
