Leave a Legacy
Through your bequest, your faith will live on via ACN’s critical projects to keep the faith alive and flourishing worldwide. After providing for your loved ones, there are numerous ways to help ACN continue to live its mission under the guidance of the Holy Father.
Making a gift to a charity in your will is a very special token of expressing the values and interests you have held dear during your life.
By leaving a gift to Aid to the Church in Need in your Will, you will be leaving a legacy of faith to help the suffering Church around the world and to help keep the light of Christ’s love alight for all generations to come.
Thanks to your generous bequest, Aid to the Church in Need can:
Support more than 15,000 seminarians each year on their path to the priesthood
Provide Mass stipends to priests ministering to needy Christians around the world
Build and repair churches and chapels where they are most needed
Help priests and Sisters travel thousands of miles in their ministry – by bicycle, car, boat and even donkey
Sustain the prayerful life of religious Sisters who bring Christ’s charity to the needy
Teach the Good News using Aid to the Church in Need’s Child’s bible, printed in more than 170 languages
Proclaim the Word of God by supporting catechetical work and publications
How your gift to the persecuted Church will be remembered
A gift made in a will to Aid to the Church in Need is a very special way of reaching out to our brothers and sisters in Christ, of passing on the faith and the values we hold dear to future generations and of helping to build God’s Kingdom on Earth.
In thanks for these special gifts of faith, a proportion of each bequest is used for Masses for the soul of the deceased. These Masses are offered by priests around the world who commend the soul of the deceased to Almighty God when they offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
As a further gesture of remembrance, we add the name of the deceased to our In Memoriam book. It rests on the altar in our Lady Chapel, watched over by a statue of Our Lady of Fatima, to whom ACN is dedicated.
Each day at midday, Aid to the Church in Need staff gather to pray the Angelus for departed friends and benefactors. Each November, we also hold an Annual Requiem Mass for Departed Benefactors, where the In Memoriam Book is taken in procession to God’s altar.
Your Catholic legacy of faith
Fr Werenfried van Straaten, who founded Aid to the Church in Need, took his inspiration from the message of Fatima. With a boundless belief in the generosity of our benefactors and a firm reliance on the Holy Spirit, he repeatedly made ambitious promises of prayer and support to “dry the tears of God wherever he weeps.”
From Fr Werenfried’s vision grew ACN – an international organisation dedicated to bringing Christ’s mesage and love to the world and to keeping the flame of faith alive and strong wherever Christians endure persecution, oppression or poverty.
Obviously, very few people are called to be a ‘Fr Werenfried’ but as we consider our own Catholic legacy of faith, we can perhaps take comfort in the fact that our compassion and our support for Fr Werenfried’s mission gives us all a share in his spiritual legacy in bringing Christ to the world.
